Successful turn-around and growth into new markets achieved by Indigotism for an SME technology developer and distributor . September 2008 With a declining turnover, and facing operational and staff problems, the owner/founder of this privately-held education-based technology distributor asked Indigotism for consultancy services leading on to its taking a stake in the business and assuming a leadership role that would enable the founder to concentrate on other interests. A new leadership structure was created, with recruitment of key talented individuals into a more focused management team, together with implementation of a rationalisation of poor-performing parts of the business. Introducing account management and professional disciplines helped win new customers, as well as re-connect with and win-back old ones. Market research, accurate key performance indicators and a 3-year business plan were developed, from which management were able to assess and identify key growth market opportunities for the company, This plan was then discussed and embarked upon with the entire workforce. A Board structure with industry non-executive representation was set up to allow the founder to steer and shape the business for the long-term. The results to date include turnover x2, profits x5, together with the higher cash-flows to enable new investments in new own-developed products; in breaking into new markets (including the USA); and in a brand-new bespoke testing and distribution facility. The original founder has been able to achieve long-held ambitions including creation of a property-based pension portfolio, and a business that is well-placed to outperform the market through the challenges the prospect of a global recession might bring.
